The Meeting was brought to order at 2:08 PM by Chairman Mansier. Notice was made of meeting the Open Public Meetings Act requirements.
The minutes of the March meeting were approved as read.
Coordinator:
The Coordinator's, report is attached. Ms. Waugh described the Hopewell Valley Community Needs Focus Groups survey and advised those interested to participate.
Chairman:
Copies of the 2007 Mercer County Strategic Plan were distributed to members by Mr. Mansier. He noted the statistics that the elderly population in Mercer County is expected to continue to grow and will present unique challenges. A copy of the plan is attached.
Copies of the HVSAB Strategic Planning Committee Report: April 8, 2008 were distributed and a copy is attached. This document was read and discussed.
Mr. Mansier announced that Joel May has established a Hopewell Valley Seniors website, http://www.hvseniors.org/ He was thanked and members were encouraged to view it regularly.
May is designated as Older Americans Month. The theme this year is “Working together for Strong, Healthy & Supportive Communities”.
Finance:
$50,000 has been set aside by Hopewell Township to assist in the cost of designing the proposed Senior Center. An architect will be hired.
The 501-C (3) non-profit status of the Foundation has been approved. The HVSA Board will serve as the Foundation board with the requested exception of Jean Harrington. A meeting of the Foundation Board is scheduled for May 12, 2008, 2 pm at the HV Senior Center. Officers will be elected.
Old Business:
Bill Farmer reported that the proposed site of the new senior center is be examined for possible problems of chemicals, etc. which could involve DEP. An engineering firm has been hired for $15,000 by the YMCA. The “due diligence” report has been done.
Jean Harrington plans to write a letter to the Department of Justice relative to the fact that sidewalks, curb cuts, rights-of-ways, etc. in Hopewell Boro do not meet the ADA requirements and are a serious hazard to the elderly and disabled. A Lawyer may be consulted.
The meeting adjourned at 3:30 PM.
