Attendees: Larry Mansier, Bill Farmer, Tom Di Muzio, Noel Goeke, Nils Stout, Rosaline Fleming, Jean Harrington, Anne Bolick

Others Present: Abigail Waugh, Senior Coordinator, Kim Johnson, Hopewell Township liaison, Weed Tucker, Pennington Borough liaison.

The meeting was called to order at 2:08 by President Larry Mansier. A quorum was present.
Notice was made of the meeting consistent with the Open Public Meetings Act requirements.

Minutes: The November, 2011 meeting minutes were approved unanimously.

Coordinator Report:

Administration:

  • Coordinated installation of automatic door opener at senior center.
  • Finance:

  • Hopewell Valley Senior Foundation Meeting.
  • Solicited quotes for newsletter printing. AJ Printers $193 for 875 copies will continue to print the Senior Spirit for 2012.
  • Events and Programs:

  • Had speakers on the following topics: Seniors and Diabetes and Veterans HomeCare Benefit.
  • Held a Holiday Sing-A-Long and Brain Teaser Group at the senior center.
  • Held Coffee Connections series "Collecting Textiles" at the Hopewell Borough Train Station.
  • Artists' Choice group is going to go to every week in January and will have two facilitators Bob Barish and Sue Ewart.
  • Publicity:

  • See flyers, Senior Spirit, www.hvseniors.org, and newspaper.
  • Social Services:
  • Assisted residents and caregivers with a variety of concerns: new dementia diagnoses, benefits assistance, advocating for a loved on and more.
  • Transportation:

  • Solicited quotes for 2012 Hopewell Valley Rides Program. Ride Provide submitted the lowest quote at $14.25 per ride and will continue to provide the service for the valley.
  • Volunteers:

  • Coordinated volunteer effort to paint the interior room of the senior center.
  • Chair report:

  • Sevy DiCocco is at home in hospice care. Larry encouraged all members to reach out to Sevy's wife and family for support.
  • The local governments will need to re-appoint SAB members in the upcoming beginning of year meetings.
  • Development of the Pennytown site was suspended due to the controversy surrounding sewers in the southern tier of the township. It appears that the low income housing component of Pennytown may be altered and the town has taken a conservative approach and put all other projects on hold until clarity of direction. Requirements for low income housing will need to be determined for each site before work will once again resume.
  • SAB members were asked to consider alternative solutions to this delay and be prepared to discuss same at the January meeting.
  • No Public Participation in the meeting.

Software Guardians (Also, (per Joel May) you should look into software such as Deep Freeze (http://www.faronics.com/enterprise/deep-freeze/) which returns the computer to its initial state regardless of what havoc the novice user has wreaked upon it. Also, the following: Libre Office (word processor, spreadsheet, presentation maker and database and a successor to Open Office), Picasa (basic photo editor and organizer) and possibly Paint.Net (advanced photo editor). These are all free programs.

    A Ewing group of computer experts have agreed to assist in set up of our computers.

    Explorations: Currently there are four courses planned for the Spring semester.

    Senior Lunches: Attendance has improved at the lunches and the springtime sessions will be held in April and May, 2012.
