Senior Advisory Board Meeting
Wednesday, July 16, 2008
2:00 PM
Hopewell Valley Senior Center

Attending: Larry Mansier, Bill Farmer, Jean Harrington, Bob Riley, Virginia Silliphant, Severino DiCocco, Anne Bolick

Excused: Joel May, Nils Stout-SAB Members; Abigail Waugh, Senior Coordinator

The Meeting was brought to order at 2:14 by Chairman Mansier. Notice was made of meeting the Open Public Meetings Act requirements.

The minutes of the June meeting were discussed in considerable length. During that month, Chairman Mansier had attended a county wide meeting where various issues were discussed and, in turn, he reported on the availability of their newsletter ("Link") and the parameters of a "Meals on Wheels" meal. Ms. Harrington offered that the cost seemed considerably higher than her recollection. Proposed factual narrative solution: "The local weekday meals for the elderly are administered and delivered by F. I. S. H. as purchased from the Pennington Market apart from the "M. O. W." used in other parts of the county. Happily, these Hopewell Valley Meals are priced below the other programs."

Senior Foundation: Vice-Chairman Farmer reported that the 501(c)3 Senior Foundation is up and running. The by-laws have been approved, the officers elected: Bill Farmer, President, Nils Stout, Vice President, Anne Bolick,Secretary, Joel May, treasurer and Larry Mansier Corresponding Secretary.

Mr. Farmer also touched on planning and funding as relates to the Foundation and the property and COAH issues that relate to the proposed Senior Center. There also was some discussion on the timing, function and frequency of meetings.

Hopewell Borough Senior Questionnaire: Ginny Silliphant has been espousing and working on a questionnaire that would elicit inputs relating to aspirations of Hopewell Seniors for the proposed Senior Center and its activities. There was an open discussion of how this might affect the Senior Foundation?s and the "Y"s planning initiatives. Members of the SAB individually and collectively wound up supporting this project.

New Business: There has been dissatisfaction of the proposed sale of the Trenton Water Department by township residents, who would realize considerable cost increases for water. Meetings and strategies were outlined by Ms. Bolick for those who were interested.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:48

Respectfully Submitted,
Bob Riley: Secretary

Next meeting scheduled for Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 2:00 at the HV Senior Center.
