Senior Advisory Board Meeting

The Meeting was brought to order at 2:05 PM by Chairman Mansier. Notice was made of
meeting the Open Public Meetings Act requirements.
The minutes of the May meeting were approved with the following changes in the report of Vice-
Chair Farmer:
“The ground water detected at such site is being tested for pollution and contaminants, a not
particularly alarming event:”
Was changed to:
“The YMCA is checking to see if the ditch is drainage or an active stream”.
Chairman:
The Chair Mansier reported on the meeting of the Advisory Council on Aging held at the
Geriatric Center in Hamilton. A series of Open House meetings have been held by the
Department of Aging for seniors throughout Mercer County during which surveys were taken.
The goal was to learn how to better help more seniors.
In addition a drive has been mounted by various Aging action groups to urge the legislature to to
appropriate more money from the Casino Fund in order to fund weekend meals for the Meals on
Wheels programs throughout the state. Paper plates with supporters names supporting this
issue have been delivered to state legislators.
A Proclamation declaring the month of May as Senior Month has been signed by
Hopewell Borough, Hopewell Township and Pennington Borough officials.
Coordinator:

Ms. Waugh distributed copies of the attendance record at the 22 programs she
administers, separating the three municipalities. The total attendees were 378.
o
The Senior Picnic for Hopewell Valley Seniors will be held at Rosedale Park on
September 4.
o
Pennington Borough is working on the “wish list” of repairs to the Senior Center that was
created at the May meeting.
o
Planning Meeting for the new Senior Center with the Architect, the Advisory Board and
township officials are being held each second Tuesday at 3:30 PM at the Township municipal
building.
o
Transportation of seniors by Hopewell Valley Rides increased by 34 riders in May.
o
Ms. Waugh expressed the need for a written policy guideline as to what sponsored
programs are appropriate to offer seniors.
o
Senior Spirit publication will be folded on June 20.
o
Ms. Waugh continues to meet with the YMCA on the needs assessment survey.
Ms. Waugh will be on vacation July 12 - 19.
Old Business:
Ms. Silliphant discussed a possible survey specific to Hopewell Borough that may help get more
participation in Senior programs at the Senior Center from that location.
The meeting adjourned at 4:06 PM.
Next meeting: July 16, 2008 at 2 PM at the HV Senior Center.
